I wanted to try to make a quilt using the Convergence method. In the end, I found a great panel and then found a pattern which could be used to showcase my beautiful panel. My quilt doesn't strictly follow the pattern's instructions and sizings (the panel wasn't the right size) and I also wanted it to be made into a quilt to fit a single bed. When the panel arrived (I found it online from Maleny Magic Patchworks & Quilts), I discovered I had the ombre fabric already which perfectly matched the colours.
The pattern I used was Shenandoah Quilt Pattern by Creative Sewlutions. I made the quilt top at my Glenrose Retreat and then after New Years, I decided there was too much black on the outer border. I decided to teach myself some hand embroidery (thank you YouTube) and googled a possible design. So, my chain stitched dragonflies were created. As I went along, I decided how many to do (it was taking ages to do one so I did as few as possible). I didn't want the dragonflies to overshadow the panel so I ended up only doing 8. I think they look very impressive (from a distance!). The quilting was just basic in the ditch through the middle. For the outer border, I created my own template - I wanted circles around each dragonfly - and I wanted to join these with squiggly lines. I started to do these lines in blue (the same as the circles) but decided that was too much and would distract from the panel. So, basic black it was!
