This is the second caravan quilt I have made. When I was in Melbourne a few years ago, Nicole asked me if I would make a quilt for her. She had purchased some Dutch fabrics (she is Dutch) and she wanted them incorporated in the quilt, as well as aboriginal fabrics to represent their new home here in Aus. Last year, they purchased a caravan so I decided to use the same pattern I used for my van quilt to make one for her.
The corner "tiles" and the outer stripe border are the Dutch fabrics. I scoured the internet and found some aboriginal fabrics I thought would complement the Dutch. This was no easy task as generally Aboriginal prints were rather busy and very colourful but I found some perfect ones.
To personalise the quilt even more, I incorporated a few things that Nicole and her family like to do.....hiking, SUPing, bike riding, tulips, Dutch camp oven.
I read online somewhere that you should use a new technique on every quilt you create - my new techniques on this one was quilting as you go with wider sashings as well as a peeper style binding.
I handed over the quilt to Nicole and her family at Christmas....
