Boro jacket repairs by Mandy

Jacket reborn - Boro covering bleach stain

I enjoy doing craft projects using Japanese boro techniques.  Usually these are just creating something new with raw edged pieces of fabric and various stitches. Traditionally, boro was a technique used to repair clothing and extend its life.  I love the fact that the boro stitching on my jacket is using boro in the traditional sense.  This jacket has always been a favourite of mine.  Unfortunately I was wearing it on a hairdresser visit and some watery bleach ran down onto the jacket and removed some of the colour.

I found this charm square pack online and cut pieces of it to fit around the yolk of the jacket. I then used some off-white crochet cotton to slow stitch in various patterns and directions. I am thrilled that I can now wear the jacket again, complete with a story!
